This page provides information for journalists who wish to do
a story about the Degree Confluence Project, whether it is to appear in
print (e.g. magazine, newspaper), be broadcast (e.g. radio, television), or
is for electronic publication (e.g. website content).

Information about the Degree Confluence Project
There is a wealth of information about the project available on our website.
Please "have a look around" to familiarize yourself with the project before
contacting us. In particular:
- The Information page has links to a lot of
project information.
- It is always a good idea to read the list of Frequently
Asked Questions (FAQ).
- You should explore the site's Main page, including
past News Items.
- You might want to take a look at the available information for one or more
Countries.
- From any confluence page, by using the Random link at the top of
the page, you can go to a random confluence visit,
which helps give a cross-section of the visits available on the website.
- We maintain a Pressroom webpage with links to
stories about the project.
Contacting a coordinator, or confluence visitor
You can use the Contact Us page to send an email to
the Regional Coordinator for your region, or for the region that contains a
particular confluence you may be interested in.
Please note that all the coordinators
are volunteers, and may not be able to respond "right away". If you plan to do
a story about the project it is best to allow a good lead time before your
broadcast or publication deadline.
Some confluence visitors make their email address available on their
Visitor page. Others provide a link to their homepage,
which may provide a means
of contacting them. If you wish to contact a visitor who doesn't make this
information available on our website, a Regional Coordinator may be able
to help try and contact them on your behalf(we will not disclose visitor's
email addresses unless we get permission). This may take a while, and may not
work, either because the visitor isn't interested, or because the email address
we have for them is no longer valid.
How can I get permission to use pictures and stories from your website?
We have a webpage section that explains
the copyrights. To use a photo from our website you will need to get the
permission of the copyright holder, and that is the confluence visitor. One
advantage of doing so is that they may have a higher-resolution version than
the one available on our website.
Some notes regarding doing a story about the project
- We ask that you contact a Regional Coordinator regardless of whether or not
you need any help with your story. In particular, we would like to know in
advance when the story will be published or broadcast. That information should
also be communicated to our Pressroom Coordinator.
- If you are going to include any "project statistics" in your story, please
include an "as of" date, as the project's statistics are constantly changing.
- We suggest that you arrange to have a Regional Coordinator fact check
your story before publication/broadcast, as we often see stories with one or
more errors in them, ranging from minor errors to fundamental misstatements
about the project.
- We view the project as an "an organized sampling of the world", not a competition,
which is why we don't provide a list, or statistics, about "who has the most
confluence visits".
- Once your story is published/broadcast, we would like:
- Permission to put a link on our Pressroom page
to your website's copy of the story.
- An electronic copy of the story, and permission to provide it via our
Pressroom page, which we don't do unless the
original story gets removed from your website. This applies to both print
and broadcast stories.
- For print media, two hardcopies - one to be mailed to your Regional
Coordinator, the other to be mailed to the project's mailing address,
which is listed on the Contact Us page.
