18-Nov-2006 -- My friend Colin and I decided to revisit a confluence not too far from Weipa where we live with our respective families at the moment. We thought it would be a good idea to leave early in the morning to beat the heat so I got everything ready the day before... or so I thought.
I had forgotten to fill up the car with petrol and in the bustling metropolis of Weipa, nothing opens before seven o'clock, if you're lucky. Anyway this little setback didn't dampen our spirits. We were on the road as soon as we could and drove about an hour and a half before finding a side track that was about as close to the confluence as we could drive. That's where we "hid" the car and headed off for a 5 kilometres and a half hike. Nothing too strenuous. Very little wildlife other than a few birds and bats. The terrain was rather flat except for a couple of dry creeks. We returned to the car and home. It made for a nice half day in the middle of nowhere for a bushwalk.
