26-Aug-2005 -- While assisting with sorting out some radio communications, there was a need to test some cheap market antennas to see how well they perform with the radio systems in use here around Nyala, Dārfūr. As we were looking for safe areas to travel to test the antenna, I was checking the maps and noticed that one of those elusive confluence points was quite near. Plans of where to test the antenna became clearer. It also made good sense to find out if we could use this promising antenna in the camp area.

Four of us visited the point. Osman, Angabo, Ashraf and myself, Ray. The confluence site is about 1.5 km south of the Kelma camp in Dārfūr. Kelma is one of the world's largest IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps with over 150,000 inhabitants. The drive to the camp is approximately 13 km from the town and we arrived at the edge of the camp and found the antenna was struggling a little, and as we turned back via the confluence point, we could barely communicate at all.

So now we have visited a 'Confluence' and completed a test of the radio antenna.
