21-Jun-2001 -- After a previous unsuccessful attempt on 24S 148E in the Minerva Hills I returned with enough time and had better luck. I managed to drive to within 2 kilometres on a rough track and just had one small obstacle between me and the point. The obstacle was a pretty steep hill with a lot of cliff sections, but it didn't look impossible. The hill was covered with small loose boulders that were hidden in waist high spear grass just to make it a little more interesting.
It was an exhausting climb, but having found a way around cliffs near the top, it was easier walking on the top. It looked like I'd be able to make an easy walk of it until I found myself looking over another cliff with the GPS indicating I had another 540 metres to go.
I found a way down but it was no easier than the slope I'd come up. Sweat was dripping into my eyes and sharp speargrass seeds were working into my clothes. I could tell it wasn't going to be an easy walk back. Making slow progress down and thinking of the return trip, I chickened out once I was within 100 metres. My GPS said it was only another 75 metres, but that meant a long way down the slope and even further back again.
