26-May-2006 -- This is a completely unexpected and unscheduled Confluence. 15N 97W is extremely far offshore, about 83 km, and the visibility did not seem exceptionally good to me.
But when I had a look through the window after dinner, I clearly saw land. Checking the GPS, I realized that we were just at 15°02'N 97°02'W. No big issue to steer the ship exactly to the Confluence and to have a look towards NW and North onto the mountain ranges of the Federal State of Oaxaca. Having a look on the chart I learned that the mountains are attaining an elevation of about 2,500 metres (9,000 feet).
After this we continued to peacefully steaming towards the Gulf of Tehuantepec and thence to Panama.
It's probably worth to note that the ship is meanwhile washed from the clinker dust and clean again :-)
