17-Mar-2007 -- Claude Gagné, Pierre G. Lavigne, Guy Lavoie and Pierre Pelletier, all residents of Radisson, Quebec, Canada, decided on March 16, 2007 to visit the confluence N54 W079 and undertook the preparations to carry out this visit the following day.

After completing all preparations on the morning of Saturday March 17th, we left the village of Radisson at 10 am in direction of the La Grande 1 hydroelectric power station. The weather is excellent, sunny with a temperature of -10 celsius.

We initially took the James-Bay Road South for approximately 20 kilometers then headed West on the road leading to the Cree community of Chisasibi for approximately 60 kilometers.

From La Grande 1 power station there is an access road to the James Bay reaching a place named Long-Point which is much frequented by the Cree Amerindians of Chisasibi as a starting point to reach their hunting territories and trap lines. We unloaded our snowmobiles near the power station and indicated our destination and project to the Hydro-Quebec security agent that was on the premises. Riding our snowmobiles we crossed the power station using a road built on its roof and continued on the access road covered with packed snow and ice for approximately 50 kilometers.

After reaching Long-Point we checked our GPS to determine that we were, as previously planned, approximately 10 km South-west of the confluence. The snow and ice conditions on James Bay were excellent and we reached the confluence situated in a small bay in less than 15 minutes and without any difficulty. After having located the precise place of the confluence and taken the required photographs, we celebrated our find with a sip of Scotch whisky to warm us up a bit and to underline St-Patrick’s day even if none of us is Irish. The confluence was reached on March 17th, 2007 at 1h10 pm after a 143,2 kilometers trip. We then left the confluence and were back in Radisson around 4h00 pm. We were all delighted that we had achieved our goal.

17-Mar-2007 -- Claude Gagné, Pierre G. Lavigne, Guy Lavoie et Pierre Pelletier, tous de Radisson, Québec, Canada, ont décidé le 16 mars 2007 de visiter la confluence N54 W079 et ont entrepris les préparatifs pour réaliser cette visite, le lendemain.

Samedi le 17 mars 2007 vers 10h après avoir complété les préparatifs nous avons quitté le village de Radisson en direction de la centrale hydroélectrique La Grande 1. La journée s’annonce très belle, ensoleillée avec une température de -10 celsius.

Nous avons d’abord emprunté la route de la Baie-James en direction sud pour environ 20 kilomètres puis bifurqué vers l’Ouest sur la route menant à la communauté crie de Chisasibi sur environ 60 kilomètres.

À partir de la centrale La Grande 1 se trouve une route d’accès menant à la baie James en un endroit nommé Longue-Pointe qui est très fréquenté par les amérindiens cris de Chisasibi comme point de départ pour accéder à leurs territoires de chasse et de trappe. Nous avons débarqué les motoneiges aux abords de la centrale et avons indiqué notre destination à l’agent de sécurité d’Hydro-Québec présent sur place. Nous avons ensuite traversé la centrale par un chemin aménagé sur le toit de la centrale puis nous avons parcouru la route d’accès enneigée sur environ 50 kilomètres.

Arrivés à Longue-Pointe, nous avons vérifié nos GPS pour déterminer que nous étions à environ 10 km au Sud-Ouest de la confluence. Les conditions de neige et glace sur la baie étaient excellentes et nous avons atteint la confluence dans une petite baie en moins de 15 minutes et sans aucune difficulté. Après avoir identifié l’endroit précis de la confluence et pris les photos de circonstance, nous avons célébré notre quête par une traditionnelle gorgée de Scotch Whisky, question de se réchauffer l’intérieur et souligner la St-Patrick même si aucun d’entres-nous n’est irlandais. La confluence a été atteinte le 17 mars 2007à 13h10 après un parcours total de 143,2 kilomètres. Nous avons rebroussé chemin et étions de retour à Radisson vers 16h réjouis d’avoir atteint notre objectif.
