18-Feb-2007 -- This was the sixth of seven confluences on a trip out to Portland to see my sister.
I turned east off of MT-24 onto a questionable dirt road with a sign saying it was Highway 528/River Road. This road had a light covering of snow that was wet on top but frozen below. After a few miles of cautious driving it turned to gravel. I continued east and was able to park 360 meters directly south of the point.
I set off across a frozen wheat field covered in snow. Zeroing out was fairly easy and I wish I had taken my Trimble with me on this short hike! I was just south of the Missouri River and a farm complex was visible to the north with yellow outbuildings and grain storage bins.
Picture #1 is a low aspect or rodent-cam view from the confluence looking north. Picture #2 looks north towards the Missouri river. Picture #3 looks east. Picture #4 looks south. Picture #5 looks west. Picture #6 shows my GPS position.
As I continued east, the road became paved 14.3 km east of the confluence and my speed picked up considerably. Total time off of US-2 at Glasgow until I was back eastbound on US-2 north of Macon was 1:45 and 118km.
Onward to 48-105!
