12-Oct-2022 -- This is the 5th out of seven reports reaching or attempting confluence points during a one-week bicycle trip in Southern Italy. The story starts from 42°N 15°E and continues from 40°N 18°E.
Coming from Gallipoli, it took me 2 days by bicycle to reach this confluence, which is located in the southernmost part of Basilicata in the mountains near the Parco Nazionale del Pollino. In order to reach the point, I had to overcome a 1000 m high pass and descend again through the villages of Castellucio Superiore and Castellucio Inferiore.
This confluence is located 200 m from the road SP4. A bicycle track conveniently took me up to a distance of 90 m. The exact location is on an agricultural field with radish.
I walked along the field edge bordered by a fenced goat farm up to a distance of 30 m. At this moment, the dogs at the nearby farmhouse hat noted my presence. As loyal watchdogs they started barking loudly. I quickly took the directional pictures and went back to my bicycle. Obviously nobody was home at the farmhouse, as nobody came outside to look for the reason of the barking dogs.
After the visit, I cycled a bit further until daylight faded and spent the night in the mountain town Rotonda.
