20-Jul-2023 – Google Maps are good for navigating towards a confluence point. Sometimes the navigation involves more scenic points than necessary. On this visit it was a little bit of both. We followed the guidance to a point about 1.8 km from the CP. It stopped there. The Garmin pointed through some fields of wooded land, but there was a graveled road pointing in roughly the same direction. To begin with it seemed ok, but gradually it turned in another direction, and the road surface was no longer good. We returned to the point where Google maps stopped working. A few hundred meters back on the main road we found an asphalt road going in the right direction. About 2 km on this road we came to the CP. It was ten – fifteen meters from the road. A small cow was grazing at the very CP if my Garmin is accurate.
On both sides of the road there were steel gas pipes. They may have been the reason for my manual compass to behave a bit strange. When I was to take the required photos, it was difficult to find the right NESW directions.
PS. The date and time on the Garmin is wrong.
