26-Sep-2010 --
After camping for a week at Adels Grove by the Lawn Hill National Park we loaded up the car and headed for home on the Sunshine Coast.
I had a rough plan of some confluences that we might do if the timing worked out right, and we had had a successful visit to 22S-143E on the way up the week before. We followed Suzanne's parents, who had been camping with us, on the gravel road past the Century Zinc mine and on to Gregory Downs, where we had some lunch and then parted company – they heading north to Burketown – while we followed the bitumen Wills Developmental Road to the Burke and Wills Roadhouse and then Julia Creek.
A short distance out of Gregory Downs a straight section of the road had been set up as a emergency airstrip for the Flying Doctor, complete with piano keys and signs warning not to park on the "airstrip". As we continued towards the Roadhouse I noticed on the map that the road passed very close to 19 S 140 E and although I was sure that it had been visited before it was too easy to pass up.
We parked on the road about 200m from the confluence and it was an easy walk to the point through country lightly timbered with small eucalypt trees and bush. There were some occasional wildflowers out as well.
We took the necessary photos and then headed back to the car and drove to the Burke and Wills roadhouse, disturbing a couple of emus along the way. After an ice cream and a drink we continued on to Julia Creek watching the sunset against the storm clouds that were all around.
We overnighted at Julia Creek and the next day successfully visited 21S-142E and 21S-143E.
