19-Aug-2002 -- We knew this confluence was only around 10 kilometres from the highway, what we didn't know was whether there would be a way to access it! Fortunately there was a dirt road which seemed to be headed in the right direction and so we opted to give it a go. The closest that we could get whilst driving was 1.6 kms and so the rest had to be covered on foot. As you can see from the photos the area is relatively devoid of dense vegetation. It appears as if lightning strike fires dont allow too much to grow.
Since we were on a bit of a time limit, Ian took his GPS and headed off at a jog leaving me with the other GPS and our two Jack Russells. I am not sure whether I found Ian and the confluence via GPS or the dogs tracking!!!!
Anyway, we met up. Ian was well into taking the photos. Even though it was mid-winter here in WA the temperature was still quite warm and it is easy to see why the ground looks constantly baked. I feel sorry for the cattle that use this area for their "pastures", even the spinifex is sparse.
