27-Dec-2002 -- This confluence forms part of an eleven-confluence journey that starts at 27°S 150°E.
Coming from 27°S 150°E, we returned to Condomine and then took the Condomine-Meandarra road towards the Moonie Highway. Once on the Moonie Highway, shortly after passing Mount Driven, we turned off on an access road about 8 kilometres from the confluence.
500 metres from the confluence, it became apparent that the confluence was quite close to a row of trees separating two paddocks. I couldn’t see any homesteads around so getting permission to start traversing somebody’s station was going to be problematic. There was, however, a crude track running adjacent to the row of trees, so I carefully proceeded to drive right up to the confluence.
Just as we arrived at the confluence, I noticed a white sedan heading towards me in my rear-view mirror. I got out and explained what I was doing and apologised for not putting more effort into seeking out the homestead. After agreeing that I was completely mad, the lady in the car asked that I take my pictures quickly and leave.
As we headed back to the highway, I noticed that she was following me. I wasn’t sure if she was making sure we were leaving, checking to see if I dealt with all the gates properly or simply heading into town to do some shopping. She passed me as I opened and closed the only gate that was closed when I came in and gave me a nice wave. We then followed her into St George where we stayed the night in a motel.
