#1: The confluence point lies among large granite boulders, near the entrance to this alcove

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

09-Apr-2019 -- This point had been visited only twice before - the last time more than 12 years ago. Both previous visitors reported having trouble visiting the point, which surprised me, because satellite imagery clearly showed a dirt road - Aberdeen Road - heading westward from Thunderbolts Way to pass just 300m from the point. And indeed, Aberdeen Road - about 10 km long - was mostly easy to drive, except as I got close to the point, it became narrow and rough - just barely suitable for my low-clearance rental car. (There were also two (unlocked) gates to pass through on the way.)

At [-29.99767,151.00320], about 300m East of the point, another narrow dirt road branches off Aberdeen Road. I parked here and hiked along this road to [-29.99787,150.99985] - about 240m north of the point - and then bushwhacked the rest of the way.

The point surprised me. It is quite spectacular, lying amongst large granite boulders, near the top of a forested hill.

Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point. Looking North, you can see Lake Copeton - a large artificial lake. Looking South, you can see the Gwydir River.
