30-Mar-2023 -- From [-36,143], I drove northwards to the delightfully-named small town of Manangatang. From there, I took a series of rural roads (some paved, some dirt) to “Parallel Road”, which roughly followed the 35 Degrees South line of latitude, and passed just 100m North of the point. The point lies in a fallow farm field, across a (thankfully, not barbed-wire) fence. A prominent tree lies just to the South of the point.
Reading the report from the previous visitors - Targ Parsons and Zifeng Liu in 2008 - I was nervous about getting stuck on a sandy road. And Parallel Road - running West from the point - was, indeed, sandy in spots. I had no trouble driving it in my rental SUV, but I’d be wary about driving it in wet conditions.
Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
