#1: Main view from the confluence

(visited by David Thompson, Ada Thompson, Jamie Thompson and Vicky Thompson)

17-Nov-2001 -- NE of Warwillah, NSW.

Continued from 35°S 144°E.

Leaving Moulamein, we took the Wanganella-Moulamein Road more-or-less due east until we hit the Cobb Highway where we turned left. Continuing north on the Cobb Highway, just after Coopers Swamp we turned right on Warwillah Road and continued on until reaching the 35th parallel where we turned right on a dirt track called East-West Road.

East-West Road appears to run through at least two stations (ranches) and we had to stop and open and close three gates (one before the confluence and two after) as we transversed this track. Just before reaching the confluence, four mid-sized grey kangaroos bounced right in front of us which gave me quite a shock – luckily I didn’t hit any of them. Both sheep and cattle graze right up to and on the road, so you certainly need to be watchful. We also saw about half a dozen emus – but they ran away before I could take a photo.

The closest we could get the confluence by road was about 1.4 km so after crawling under a fence, I had quite a long walk to the confluence. This is very flat grazing land for sheep and cattle and the view is pretty much the same in all directions.

The aerial photo comes from the NSW Department of Land and Property Information which is a really handy site that has aerial photos available online for the entirety of NSW.

That makes two down and three to go – on to 35°S 146°E.
