25-Oct-2007 -- On our tour to Gambia we made an extensive Mauritania round. While navigating the piste from Atar to Tidjikdja we took the chance to visit the 19N 12W confluence.
We left the old piste marked on the Russian or IGN maps at around 19°2'N 11°55'W to follow some single merchant tracks in the Oued El Khatt toward southwest. Reaching 19° latitude we left the Oued to go straight west on a sandy plain which became more and more the structure of a dune field. We bypassed the big dunes southwest on the direct way to the confluence point, and then drove straight to the point in a sandy depression.
Continued at 18N 8W.
