#1: Looking north

(visited by Petr Jecminek, Lenka Jecminkova, Andreas Kolb, Mike Smith, August Hatecke and Bethilda Smith)

14-Nov-2004 -- Continued from 20N 55E.

This was the final point to be visited on our trip. We set off thinking that it would be easy given that according to the map we would be travelling across a gravel wādiy bed. This was true for about the first 25 km, but then we had to get over some serious rock formations, and then later tricky scrub filled dunes with frequent patches of very soft sand that made progress very slow. Therefore, we reached this point after a longer than expected journey. We did get there late in the afternoon, tired, but happy.

The point is located amongst contiguous sand coverage with a lot of vegetation and no large flat plains, which makes reaching the point an off-roader's delight. Originally we planned to lunch on the spot but had to change the plans as the expedition members without fat reserves grew quite aggressive and needed feeding. We still had another 200 km to cover across the desert the next day, but that's another story...

The team we were part of was fantastic and we will definitely complete the remaining Omani points in a very similar configuration.
