#1: The dunes northwest of the point

(visited by Husam Alshethry, Aziz Mohammed and Musfer Qahtany)

05-Jan-2005 -- Hello, we are very proud of this accomplishment, because we were the first Sa`udis to hit a point on the Degree Confluence Project: We went through the Empty Quarter just for hunting jack rabbits.

I told `Azīz before we left Riyāḍ that we could at least get also to 2 confluence points, but what happened were 3 very tough points in one trip. We had 7 cars: 4 Land Cruiser pickups(for fuel and water), 2 Land Cruiser GXR's and one Nissan Safari Patrol.

The driving part of this trip was actually very tough, we usually drove all day looking for good spots to hunt and when we found one, we placed the heavy pickups and lightened the other cars from stuff and went in different groups to hunt. We had 3 falcons and 3 hunting dogs with us, this is why we only hunt at daylight. We don't use shotguns, nor do we hunt at night, actually it's against the law to hunt with firearms here, also in the moral of Sa`udis, and btw, the way of hunting jack rabbits is not to use anything beside dogs or falcons (but some do).

This confluence point was in the middle of the dunes, the area was salt sand with a white covering like skin.

The other points visited on this trip were 19N 50E and 20N 54E.

Coordinator's Note: These two mentioned confluence visits did not become submitted so far, unfortunately.
