#1: The point is marked!

(visited by DLC Roger, Tom, Andreas)

28-Oct-2002 -- We are members of Deutscher LandCruiser-Club (German LandCruiser Association) and love to travel the desert. In October/November 2002 we went with two cars to south Algeria. Most time we spend south of the oasis Djanet, a pretty nice desert place with all facilities a traveller needs.

One day we decided to try to reach a confluence point. Looking at the maps 24N 10E seemed to be a good one. Close to some rocky fields, but the cars should be able to take us close to the point.

And indeed it was an easy one. We walked the last 600 m and found the point in a sand flat surrounded by small mountains. We marked the point with a piece of wood and (only for the pictures) with a water bottle. Being out there in the desert at a confluence point, we thought about if ever someone had been here. Will ever someone come here again? In the desert you will never know...

At this moment we did not know that this should be the first of three points we would visit within a week. The searching was started and we wanted more. This one was the easiest one. The next one (24N 11E) would require all our navigation knowledge and all the power of the LandCruisers to go there.
