25-May-2002 -- Here we go again, another American tour, I spent the last week in New York, but unfortunately no car meant no possible Confluence visits. I flew into Houston today for three days to visit friends on the way to California. That can only mean one thing....

...a quick look at the map shows me that this point is relatively near to where I am and more importantly it is quite an easy drive to get to. Around 610, then onto 90E and basically keep going.

There doesn't seem to be much traffic around Houston considering that it is Memorial Weekend, maybe everybody left already. I headed out on 90E and took a slightly earlier turn than the previous visitor, into Shady Lane. This quickly became a dirt-track lane and even more quickly led to being surrounded by posted No Trespassing signs.

Back to 90E and I missed the turning for 604 so carried onto 603, left onto here, down to the end and left onto 602. I carried on until I found 6042 and turned off. Unfortunately since the last visit, this road has now been chained off and is posted No Trespassing. I backed up to the last house on the left.

I tried explaining what the project is about, honestly I did. But you know sometimes you get that feeling that no matter how hard you knock, there's nobody home? I managed to find out that the previous landowner had sold out to a private investment company, and then I got the comment "is this so you can drop your bombs more accurately on us".

Now last time I checked we had just about as many guys out in Afghanistan as you did, I can only put it down to the fact that they don't get out much around here, I know for a fact that not everyone around here is that ignorant.

Anyhow, I backed up and turned off down 6041 instead. I came to a gate with a sign that had been painted out and a further stack of beehives, the closest I got was 30D 0M 16.0S / 94S 59M 31.6S, that was close enough, even at that I got 3 bees in the car.

I went back to the second gate, stepped over it and set off for the CP. About 15 minutes later with some judicious use of the tracks left by the farmer and I had reached the spot. There really is nothing to see here, apart from fields. I took shots facing E, South & W but they basically just show more of the same. This shows the GPS montage.

As I walked back to the car, I noticed how they irrigated the fields, by using a hand controlled sluice gate.

Just as you reach 90 to turn right back towards Houston, you cross a railway line, they aren't that straight back home, they are also completely fenced off. Just a few miles down the road I stopped for something to eat, where I noticed that in Texas even fireworks stores come "biggie" sized.
