19-Jan-2003 -- After visiting N32 W103 on Saturday we drove up north and got an early start for N35 W103. We took off out of Tucumcari just after dawn and went east on I40. It seemed like Highway 93 was going to take us near the confluence but that was not the best choice we could have made. In retrospect, had we come in the Glen Rio way we could have saved about 30 miles of driving. We drove almost 50 miles in a broken square around the coordinates before finding some roads that led almost to the spot! There were quite a bit of open range land that we traversed and saw lots of cattle and even a few sheep but only one human, a gentleman who appeared to be a rancher who we passed on one of the roads. There are some very picturesque canyons within the 12 x 12 mile grid we drove around trying to find roads. This is some beautiful country. There is a New Mexico State Park a few miles West by the name of Cap Rock Park that showcases the beauty of the area and it is not real far off Interstate 40. The photos ended up being a bit out of focus because I left the camera in manual mode after focusing in on the GPS. Grrrrr. In the immediate vicinity however, there is just some flat land with lots of cholla cacti growing around to feed the cattle. |
