23-Sep-2000 -- I ventured out last September by motorcycle to find this location. The weather was perfect
and except for one run in with a farm dog, I enjoyed this excursion a lot. I get stuck in the office or at
home with the family most of the time so I treasure the opportunities to fantasize about being young
and carefree. Armed only with topo maps, I soon found myself on gravel rural access roads (treacherous
on a bike). I calculated the distance I would need to travel from the intersection to the degree line
on the map and used my odometer to measure it off. The road was 200 yards east of the confluence
and there was a farmhouse there (dog encounter) but no one seemed to be around. I paced off the
walk to the 40N 90W point and was thrilled to find myself in the middle of a dry, ready for harvest soy
bean crop. As you can see from the pictures, not much in the way of scenery. At any rate, I had great
fun finding and recording this major confluence.
