(visited by Thomas Barthel)

07-Jul-2019 -- During our summer holidays in Canada, I took the chance to visit some confluence points. The story continues from 44°N 80°W visit #9.

From Peterborough we took the Highway 7 and the scenic road CR 29 "Flinton Road" direction northwest. Soon we reached Plevna. It's a nice sleepy village with good mowed meadows around the houses. After further 4 km on the Mountain road, direction north, we were near the lake, the confluence point is in. I passed a closed gate, which would be the shortest access to the lake, named "Shaw Lake". But it was closed. The GPS showed 200 m only. So I decided to start the approach from the north shore. I parked on Mountain Road, short after the junction with Brule Road. From the parking place to the CP the GPS showed a distance of 300 m. Now I prepared myself with swimming pants, towel, flippers, GoPro, GPS and walked through the stripe of woodland. On the Shore I put on the flippers and began to swim. It was a flat lake with clear water. Exactly at the aimed spot I recognized a boat with two people in it. After around 100 m swimming the boat reached me. It was the owner. He said that he owns the whole lake and that it is private, including the woodland around it and that I had to leave the area. He didn't gave me access some more meters, even after explaining him the project. In some Canadian provinces it is illegal to block public access to lakes. Not here.. So he is the reason for my very first not successful visit of a confluence point. I left the lake, escorted by many deer flies and mosquitoes. For future confluencers: avoid visits on weekends.

This visit took place on a very hot day around 3 pm. It was my first incomplete visit.

Afterwards we continued our trip direction east, to visit a further CP (45°N 76°W visit #8) and to see Ottawa, the capital of Canada.
