22-Мар-2016 – Изначально планировалось на теплоходе «Клавдия Еланская» попасть в посёлок Островной и пройти по 68-й параллели посетив все слияния от 68°N 39°E до 68°N 35°E. Из-за штормов и очень сильного ветра выход теплохода задержался на несколько дней. Пришлось пересмотреть планы и отправиться на автобусе в посёлок Туманный. Оттуда мы на лыжах пошли к точке 68°N 37°E. Точно по прямой на местности, особенно в пургу, без видимых ориентиров пройти невозможно. От «парковки» автобуса до первой цели прошли около 130 километров. Местность представляла собой чередование тундры и лесотундры. Большую часть маршрута лес отсутствовал. Погода менялась от солнечной и морозной, до пасмурной и тёплой. Неизменным оставался сильный, но попутный ветер.

Весь предыдущий день и утром дул ветер, пуржило, была низкая видимость. За 2 километра до слияния ветер стих, вышло солнце, метель прекратилась. Мы оставили рюкзаки и налегке добежали до 68°N 37°E. Слияние находится на склоне небольшого холма в 30 метрах от вершины. После «танца» и фотографирования погода снова испортилась.

Точка расположена в Ловозёрском районе Мурманской области. Ближайшие населённые пункты – посёлок Ловозеро (83 км), посёлок Краснощелье (73 км), посёлок Островной (104 км), посёлок Туманный (112 км). Реальней всего добраться на арендованном снегоходе из Ловозера, или как мы – на лыжах.

Следующая наша цель – 68°N 36°E, направление с юго-восточного меняем на западное, стараемся двигаться вдоль 68-й параллели. Ветер из попутного автоматически становится встречно-боковым.

22-Mar-2016 – Initially it was planned to get to Ostrovnoy [literally: Insular] village by the motor ship “Claudia Yelanskaya” and then walk along 68^th latitude, visiting all the confluences from 68°N 39°E till 68°N 35°E. Due to storms and very strong wind, the ship’s departure was delayed for several days. So we had to change our plan and take a bus to Tumannyy [literally: foggy] settlement. From there we set off towards the confluence 68°N 37°E by skis. It is impossible to move along the straight line onto the real terrain, especially when there’s a blizzard and there's no visible landmarks. We walked about 130 km from the bus stop to our first destination. The landscape was a mixture of tundra and forest-tundra. There was no forest almost all the way. The weather changed from sunny-and-frosty to cloudy-and-warm. The only thing that didn’t change was the strong tailwind.

It was wind and blizzard all the previous day and in the next morning, the visibility was low. The wind got quiet when we was in 2 km form the confluence point, the sun has appeared and the blizzard has stopped. We left our rucksacks and ran to 68°N 37°E. The confluence is situated on the slope of a low hill in 30 metres from the top. After our “dancing” and taking photos the weather got worse again.

The confluence point is located in Lovozero District, Murmansk Region [Oblast']. The nearest residential places are the settlements of Lovozero (83 km), Krasnoshchelye (73 km), Ostrovnoy (104 km) and Tumannyy (112 km). The most reasonable way to get there is to rent a snowmobile in Lovozero or to do like we did – by skis.

Our next destination is 68°N 36°E, we change our direction from sough-eastern to western, trying to move along 68^th latitude. The wind automatically changes from tailwind to headwind.
