13-Mar-2005 -- This was the third in a series of four confluence visits defining a one degree by one degree square bounded by the 37 and 38th north parallels and the 113 and 114 west meridians. This "box" encompasses some outstanding scenery in southwestern Utah. Travel here from 38N-114W was almost exclusively on fairly good dirt roads while successfully visiting a couple of geodash points along the way.

On the west side of the Minersville Highway (UT-130), and only 220 meters south-southwest of mile marker 26 is where you will find 38N-113W. This has to be one of the easiest confluences you can visit!

I parked along the highway at 38N and walked 133 meters west until my GPS receivers displayed all zeroes. It was a chilly but bright and sunny day. Visibility was outstanding in all directions.

Picture #1 looks southeast towards the Red Hills and Hurricane Cliffs. Picture #2 looks north. Picture #3 looks east. Picture #4 looks south. Picture #5 looks west. Picture #6 shows my GPS position.

Along the way I passed an interesting sign for the Parowan Petroglyphs. On my way south, I decided to take a look. Only a couple miles east of the highway is a natural feature called The Narrows (Picture #7) just west of the Parowan Gap. This gap is just visible at the extreme right of Picture #1. The Mormon Pioneers found some Petroglyphs (described in Picture #8) here in 1850. The Petroglyphs themselves are shown in Picture #9.

The confluence is a 10 minute stop along the UT-130. Visiting the Petroglyphs involves about a 15 minute excursion until you will be on your way again.

Next stop, 37N-113W!
