16-Apr-2005 -- Today we arrived at Montevideo for replenishing our fuel and freshwater, in order to be prepared for the forthcoming voyage to the Falkland Islands/Islas Malvinas. Fortunately, I finally succeeded in visiting 35S 56W during daylight, and so I can consider this confluence visit really complete and successful in every respect.

Looking WNW, we see the mountain that gave the name to the city of Montevideo, Cerro de Montevideo. When the great navigator Magellan arrived with his ships in 1520, they sighted this 148 m (485 ft) high hill, and named it "Montevideo" ("I see a mountain").

Looking towards NW, there is the city of Montevideo.

Looking towards NE, there is the coast around the towns of Atlantida and La Floresta.

A final look to SE, we see a handysize bulk carrier at Montevideo Service Anchorage taking fuel, and another one, a Panamax bulk carrier, approaching "Recalada Pilot Station", where the pilots for the long fairway through the Río de La Plata to Buenos Aires and the Río Paraná are boarding.

In the ocean, but with a good view of Montevideo about 15 km to the NW.
