16-Jun-2006 -- After successfully visiting the S27 E147 confluence the day before on our way from Roma to Windorah, we decided to visit the S27 E146 confluence as well. As we had overnighted in Charleville (and been to the Cosmos show in the evening which was great fun) we just drove south on the Mitchell Highway which, from looking at satellite photos of the area, went within about 5km of the confluence. The satellite photos also had what could be a track from the road heading in the direction of the confluence.
We went south from Charleville in the morning until we reached the track we had seen on the photos. We drove on the track, which followed a fence line, for about 1km until we reached a very muddy bit. I left Melanie and Melanies dad Michael with the car and continued on foot from there.
I continued to follow the fence line west, and while doing so saw many kangaroos jumping through the woods on both sides of me and crossing the fence, as well as some cattle in the distance. The vegetation was very sparse, with hardly any grasses at all on the standard Australian red ground. There were a fair amount of bushes, and some spread out old gum trees.
Eventually there was a fence that came up and met the fence I was following from the south. I started following this new fence as the confluence was in the same direction by then. After following the fence south for about 600m or so the confluence was just right there, 2m west of the fence. I reached it at 10am.
