From coast to coast - An easy hunt in the salt field
We started this hunt on the northern seashore of the Shandong peninsula, the port city of Yantai (烟台). This confluence point located right near the southern shore of the peninsula, about 52 km GPS distance from Yanti. With an airplane to catch later in the day, we hired a taxi for the hunt based on a fair for 150 km of driving.
Shandong has one of the best expressway network in China, and a dense roadway system proportion to the high population density which made line hunting relatively easy. It took us a little over an hour to reach within 10 km from the confluence point. It was evident that this entire area near the coast was reclaimed from sea either used as salt pond or used as hatchery for sea products. The most common product other than salt in this area is sea cucumber.
After passing a large salt processing factory about 4.5 km from our objective, we found a dirt road in the heart of a salt field which took us straight to the confluence point. We parked the taxi a village with 130 meters further to go toward the right of the road. It just so happen there is another dirt road heading right. We reached the confluence point after crossing a bridge over a sea water cannel.
This was a very easy hunt which offered us no chance for any exercise. This was not a very stimulating point due to an overcastted day coupled with the flat and gray surrounding. This area belongs to the Yinden (文登市)prefecture, and the best we can tell that the confluence point belongs to the Maidao (麦岛) Salt Company.
We had enough time after the hunt and stopped by Weihai (威海) city and had a great sea food meal based on the recommendation of the taxi driver. We made to Yanti airport with time to spare.
