21-Jul-2006 -- This was the second Confluence attempt for the day, after having completed 31N 15E earlier in the morning. Fortunately the access to 31N 16E was also easier than anticipated with the service road for the Great Man-Made River project passing within 1.5 km of the Confluence. This small distance proved relatively easy to drive and I ended driving directly to the Confluence.
I took the necessary photographs and a bit of a break. It was only 10:00 and compared to some of the other temperatures experienced in Libya whilst hunting for the Confluences, it was mild - around 34° Celsius, but the humidity was extremely high and the cumulus clouds could be seen to be developing all around. Three hours later whilst having a look around Surt it finally rained, a very welcome surprise.
