13-Jul-2006 -- Yet another trip to Scotland with the excuse of going rowing. This time it was the national championships, but beforehand a holiday in the Outer Hebrides.
On the way back I realised that I would pass quite close to this confluence, but wouldn't have the time to source out someone to drive me out to the exact spot in a boat. As per usual, with Scottish confluences, it involved a long trek through a bog, but I eventually neared the edge of the cliff which was as close as I was going to get. This is the view south which shows the Ardnamurchan peninsula (the most westerly point on the British mainland). The confluence cannot be far from the orange boat pictured. While I was closing in on the cliff edge this boat was circling round and round and if it wasn't confluence hunting I don't know what it was doing. The GPS at this spot.
The cardinal views I imagine are not very different from on the spot itself. The view east shows Mallaig (to where I shortly afterwards caught the ferry), that to the west shows Rum, and to the north the cliff which I'd just clambered down.
Armadale, the nearest village is a pretty place and it would probably not be difficult to hire a boat there to take you the 5 miles or so to the spot.
