(visited by Hajime Ishikawa)

16-Aug-2006 -- The confluence is located near Chichibu, a small city by Arakawa River, where we stayed at our friend's house for a short summer vacation. I left my wife and kids at the friend's house and took a car to get there by myself alone.

As on the previous visitor's journal, a local road to get there also leads you to Hosho-Ji, one of a series of 34 Chichibu pilgrimage temples. You can set the destination on your car navigation system with the temple's name (which I did).

Passing by the temple about two kilometers, paved road ends. I saw two narrow gravel roads ahead. I parked my car, choose left road and started walking, which turned out to be a wrong way.

After several hundred meters walk, I got off the road and started climbing up steep slope of thick forest, following GPS navigation.

I wondered around about one and half hour in the heavy bush in the forest. I was not prepared for something like this. It was getting dark. I was exhausted and sometimes lost the satellite. GPS receiver read few hundred meters to go, but I gave up and started walking down the slope.

Then I got out of the woods and found myself standing on a gravel road though a small vacation village, as on the previous visitor's journal. Following back the road, I could get close to the confluence in less than one hundred meters. The spot was off the road, in the woods.

On the way back, I found the road leads to the same place where I parked my car. It should have been much easier if I just take the right road, not the left.
