24-Aug-2006 -- Continuing the visit of 56°N5°W the day before with a beautiful overnight stay at Loch Fyne, I drove my car over the small road from Gairlochy to Loch Arkaig and left it at Chia-aig parking near the waterfall, 5 km south of 57°N5°W.

From here I followed the forest walk uphill until 1.6 km to the CP, already above the timberline. Some steps lead over a fairly high fence into fairly boggy grounds. I decided to go straight to the point, so I crossed a small river, walked uphill over peaty hills and holes and downhill again, crossed another brook before the last 500 m forced me to a steep climbing to conquer another 300 m elevation.

That was quite exhausting and I would not classify it as an easy hunt like Martin Mayrhofer did on his first visit in 2001 (now I can understand his wife to refuse the last section and to enjoy a recreative stop down near the lovely brook …).

But when I reached my destination at 17.50 the climbing was recompensed by some magnificent views … and the discovering of a small bridge over the first, more challenging river. To catch the bridge I took another route for my way back, avoiding the peat hills and holes and reached the car at 19.50, pretty exhausted after a 4.5 hours mountain walk with 600 m to scale up and down.

This CP can be and is dangerous especially if you are on your own or it is less than perfect weather. Gordon Spence visited this point in August and in the space of 30 minutes on the hillside it went from sun, to rain, to sun, to rain, and back to sun again. If later in the year, it can white out in minutes.
