28-Nov-2006 --
I approached the CP from Hua Sai, so I had to make around
northerly of the CP for some kilometres.
A bit north of Cha
Uat I turned back east and came across a railway crossing with a
small, defunct train
station (Ban Tung Kai) next to it. This is the Southern Line
connecting Bangkok with Butterworth. The tracks run dead straight
- an impressive
sight.
I found the CP in a similar way to Uwe, Srisuda,
Wirote and Noi: Poking here and there, hoping for the distance given by the GPS to drop. I too
got to the swamp. There was a lot of construction machinery at
work in the swamp: digging, excavating. Still no way to cross it
as a direct access to the CP.
Things changed a bit since the
last visit 4 years ago. The CP is now surrounded with a fence, so
I took a picture about 20 metres away from the actual CP. I think,
I must have parked the bike pretty much at the spot where the car
is parked in picture
2 of the previous visit.
The area of the CP is more
overgrown with bushes now. However the small tree (marked in the
previous visit by the GPS hanging from it in the above picture) is
still there and it looks like it didn't grow that much in these
years.
The sheds to the north are now replaced with a
sturdier brick house. There was a nice car parked outside, so I
assume people are doing better now.
The views to the east
and south are about the same. (Keep in mind that my pictures are
offset by about 20 metres.)
