#1: Looking North

(visited by Henk Pouwels)

03-Aug-2007 -- The fun of confluence hunting is the unexpected. That’s why I often don’t prepare the search. In the eve of a trip I examine a map scaled 1:1.200.000, which shows the DCP’s with hardly visible crosses and decide whether there is a DCP to visit. If so, I look up my Michelin 1:200.000 for the area of the DCP, this map don’t indicate the DCP. In the beginning I use the map to select which roads to drive and finally I switch to GPS-guidance by bearing and distance (no maps inside). That’s how I drove the green coloured path and walked the red dotted white trail to the DCP. While returning by car to proceed to a more important road to the North I passed the DCP at a distance of about 300m. I could have saved a lot of energy and drops of sweat.

The DCP is in a huge agricultural field, which was not harvested. Very carefully I entered the field by stepping between the rows of plants and stopped as soon as the GPS indicated the DCP was within 100m. No reason to proceed, the grain here is a look-alike of the grain at the DCP. And guess what: the N, E, S, W photographs show grain all around.

During this exercise I met nice groups of plants. Driving this kind of dirt roads with tall plants in the centre cleans the bottom of the car.

While submitting I realised my visit was 6 years and 1 day after my first visit and the unhelpful farmer!.
