15-Oct-2007 -- On our return journey from the al-Jawf area during the `Īdu l-Fiṭr holidays, we decided to visit the Confluence.
From `Ar`ar at about 147 km on the great pipeline highway, we headed south on a newish road, then at about 37 km we went offroad in a southwesterly direction towards the Confluence which was about 17 km away. The terrain was rocky and and we had to negogiate around small rocky jabals, but we managed to find good tracks that lead us right to the Confluence.
The Confluence is situated in the middle of a small dried out sabkha, surrounded by low rocky hills. It is very dry and bleak with no vegetation in sight.
After the usual confluence celebrations, we headed back and joined the great pipeline highway, contemplating how the next 800 km or so would be covered.
