07-Mar-2008 -- Due to lack of time I didn't intend to visit this confluence, which is located on the grounds of a steel factory. But when I took the ferry from Sumatra to the Javanese town of Merak, I could recognize the factory from the ship. And comparing the photo of the area with the high resolution image from Google Earth, it becomes clear where the confluence is located.
The photo was taken from about 6.5 km north of the confluence. As seen on the satellite picture, the point is inside a large hall, situated behind another hall. These two halls are clearly recognizable on the photo, so the point must be inside the building where the smoke comes out.
From the point where I made the photos there was also good view to the Krakatau volcano, which I had visited the day before. But from this position, only the rest of old Krakatau is visible, the volcano that exploded in 1883 and killed more than 30,000 people. Hidden behind is "Anak Krakatau", or Child of Krakatau, which appeared in 1930 and has since grown to a height of 450 m.
