03-Apr-2008 -- This is the 16th of a series of 83 confluence visits during our voyage from Nigeria to Europe and back to Nigeria around the entire African continent. It all started on 28 January at 11N 5E.

Story continues from 12N 2W.

Yesterday we left Banfora in direction of Sindou; just 7 km outside Banfora is Lake Tengréla. It was there where we hired a pirogue and searched for the hippos in the lake. It did not take too long before we found them. After this little adventure we continued our journey to the Sindou Peaks. The peaks are sculpted and blasted by the elements, were left behind when the surrounding softer rocks eroded away. Most of the way is through a magnificent avenue of mango trees. At Kankalaba we turned off towards Sokouraba.

Along this way we set up our camp for the night in a cashew nut plantation. The next morning we continued this road and reached the village Diéri, which is on the main road. We drove approximately 1 km in the direction of Bobo Dioulasso and turned off towards the Confluence. We managed to drive as close as 400 meters to the Confluence. The remaining distance we walked. After completing all the necessary documentation we continued our journey to the border of Mali.

Continued at 13N 5W.
