(visited by Christopher Anton)

02-May-2008 -- Another rowing trip to Scotland provided an excuse to visit this out-of-the-way confluence.

Although it seems remote this was actually - once I'd got to Harris - a very easy confluence to do and in fact could be done successfully without a GPS as the route finding is quite straightforward: Park at the end of the power station road, walk alongside the lake until you reach Abhaiin Leosaid, follow that up the valley until its confluence with the Gil Abhaidh and follow that up to Loch Braigh Bheagarais and you're then well within 100m.

I first tried doing this on the Thursday evening but realised that I was heading to the wrong spot. I'd downloaded an Ordnance Survey map and I was heading for 58N 7o5'W in error. By the time I'd realised this, and also that it was a longer walk that I'd anticipated I hadn't time to do it so left it to the next day before catching the ferry back to Skye from Tarbert. This meant that I had to tackle the white-knuckle B887 four times - and that was the only scary part of the entire trip.

Pics 1-4 show the views North, East, South and West. As there's not much to see from the confluence apart from peat bog, so Pic 6 shows the view from about 200m away and shows the mountainous interior of Harris. Just after I took this pic there was an enormous thunderclap which was quite scary as well as bizarre given that it was brilliant sunshine only a few miles away. Pic 5 shows the GPS on the spot. Pic 7 is the car on the B887 road which is barely wider than the car and often had 3-5m drops straight from the tarmacked edge.
