Confluence S19 W48

As a participant of the forum from the site www.tracksource.org.br, I notice the Project Confluence and his site www.confluence.org. Searching in the site, I found out that in Miranda’s dike, here in our region, the “Triângulo Mineiro”, has a confluence (S19 W48).

The lake of Miranda is one of the places where we usually practice adventure boat with a canoe. In order to find out this confluence, we discover that the challenge was bigger than we imagine. We have a course of 17 Km from the Indianópolis float to the confluence, and after more 7 Km till the local where a friend will catch us, by car, to come back to Uberlândia, where we live.

Another thing bother us: the great challenge that we had to fix the precise point of the confluence in the middle of the lake, because the canoe is very light and unstable.

In the day 24/05/08 - Saturday, we start anxiously our adventure. Around 7:00 in the morning we arrived to the float that makes the crossing to the city of Indianópolis. It was very cold and the fog left the vision of the environment damage.

We thought about quitting, but the preparation takes to long, it was cold and the fog was reduced. At 8:50, stressed but full of enthusiasm, we began to row. After 10:00 the day shows up perfect for the fulfillment of our adventure. The sun was shining e the wind blows slowly, almost nothing, and the surface of the water seems like a mirror, no waves, an unusual fact. With the route planed on the GPS, our anxiety grows in the same proportion as the kilometers advanced.

We witness during the course beautiful landscapes, untouchable forests, small farms and ranchs. Herons, savage ducks, capybaras that welcome us (or not), curious about those “strangers” that navigate around there, silent, in their canoes.

At 13:30, when we stopped to lunch, we had already go through 12 Km. At 15:00 - a lot of emotion! -we arrived in the local of the confluence. The place is very beautiful, the lake is wide and and the salience mountainous, almost forest.

In this place we saw only a beautiful house, in a distance of 200 meters. The water has a light stream although it was a dike, maybe for the existence of some river ou an affluent near by. Let´s go. The point of confluence is about 50 meters of distance from the border on the left side to who are step down the “river”.

Believe me, it’s not so easy : take pictures of compass points, the “adventures” in the middle of the water, rowing in a canoe that stay still, managing the GPS and booking the historical fact, all in the same time. But it was worthwhile!

At 15:20 pm, the GPS indicates the coordinates S19 W48. In euphoria, we went to the stream to celebrate the success of the undertaking. In this time of the year the sun goes down early. We have to hurry, because still have to row more 7 kilometers, the nightfall quickly and everything indicates that it will be very cold.

The local we choose to arrive is a recreation ranch, in the borders of Miranda. We arrived at 18:00 pm, and the local is mountainous, we have no sun and were freezing. A few minutes later, in happiness, were a relief to get in the car and wear dry clothes.

In this “expedition” we go through 24 kilometers at all and I can say that we have no disappointments. Our expectations were pursuit, it was a great adventure! Mario and I were used to practice these rowings with frequency, but nothing compares to an extra emotion: to register the local of one confluence.

Confluência S19 W48

Como participante do fórum do site www.tracksource.org.br , tomei conhecimento do Projeto Confluência e de seu site www.confluence.org. Pesquisando no site, descobri que na represa de Miranda, aqui em nossa região - o Triângulo Mineiro, tem uma confluência (S19 W48).

O lago de Miranda é um dos lugares onde costumamos praticar canoagem de aventura com caiaque. Resolvendo “descobrir” esta confluência, descobrimos que o desafio era bem maior do que se supunha. Tínhamos um trajeto de 17 km da balsa de Indianópolis até a confluência, e depois mais 7 km até o local onde um amigo viria nos apanhar, de carro, para a volta à Uberlândia, onde moramos.

Outra coisa nos preocupava: o grande desafio que teríamos para marcar o ponto exato da confluência no meio de uma represa, porque o caiaque é muito leve e instável.

No dia 24/05/08 – sábado, iniciamos ansiosamente nossa aventura. Por volta das 7:00 da manhã chegamos à balsa que faz a travessia para a cidade de Indianópolis. Estava muito frio e a neblina deixava a visão do ambiente bem prejudicada.

Chegamos a pensar em desistir, mas com a demora dos preparativos, o frio e a névoa foram diminuindo. Às 8:50, tensos mas entusiasmados, começamos a remar. Depois das 10:00 horas o dia se mostrava perfeito para a realização da nossa aventura. O sol brilhava e ventava pouco, quase nada, o que tornava a superfície da água espelhada, sem ondas, um fato raro. Com a rota pré-traçada no GPS, nossa ansiedade aumentava na mesma proporção em que os quilômetros avançavam.

Presenciamos durante o trajeto paisagens lindas, florestas virgens, chácaras e fazendas. Garças, patos selvagens, capivaras nos davam boas vindas (ou nem tanto), curiosas com aqueles “intrusos” que navegavam por ali, silenciosamente, em seus caiaques. Às 13:30h, quando paramos para almoçar, já tínhamos percorrido 12 km.

Às 15:00h –muita emoção!- chegamos ao local da confluência. O lugar é muito bonito, o lago é bastante largo e o relevo é montanhoso, quase só floresta. No local vimos apenas uma bela casa, a uns 200 metros do local. A água tinha uma correnteza bem leve apesar de ser represa, talvez pela existência de algum rio ou afluente próximo. Mãos à obra.

O ponto de confluência fica a uns 50 metros distante da margem do lado esquerdo de quem está descendo o “rio”. Acredite, não é nada fácil: fotografar os pontos cardeais, os “aventureiros” ali no meio da água remando sobre um caiaque que não parava no lugar, manejando o GPS e registrando o feito histórico, tudo ao mesmo tempo. Mas valeu a pena!

Às 15:20 da tarde, o GPS marcava as coordenadas S19 W48. Eufóricos, fomos para a margem para comemorar o sucesso da empreitada. Nessa época do ano o sol se põe cedo. Tratamos de nos apressar, pois ainda tínhamos que remar mais 7 quilômetros, entardecia rapidamente e tudo indicava que a noite ia ser bem fria.

O local que escolhemos para chegar é uma chácara de lazer, nas margens da Miranda. Chegamos às 18:00 h e como o local é montanhoso, não tínhamos mais sol e o frio estava nos congelando. Alguns minutos depois, nosso parceiro de aventuras náuticas, Evandro, chegou para nos buscar. Àquela altura do campeonato, mesmo felizes, foi um alívio entrar no carro e vestir roupas secas.

Nessa “expedição”, percorremos ao todo 24 quilômetros e posso dizer que não nos decepcionamos. Atendendo às nossas expectativas, foi uma aventura e tanto! Eu e o Mario já estamos acostumados a praticar essas remadas com freqüência, mas nada se compara a uma emoção a mais: registrar o local de uma confluência.
