17-Oct-2008 -- Friday afternoon found me wanting to get away from schoolwork and other people for a few hours, so I made a short trip out from Austin to 31N, 97W. The weather was sunny but not hot and I enjoyed the drive with my windows down and my iPod playing through the car's speakers. It was not hard at all to get within about 300 m of the confluence and then walk the remaining distance.
The confluence spot seems to have changed considerably from the last visits. Many of the trees and brush on the treeline that other visitors described have been cut down and left in huge piles nearby. Also, the corn fields on both sides of the treeline were probably harvested earlier this month, and fresh tractor tracks leading to the spot supported that conclusion.
At the spot, I took pictures and made a phone call to my cousin in College Station to see if he wanted to have dinner. I came back to Austin the next day, just in time to catch up on schoolwork and go to the Texas/Mizzou football game, which Texas won 56-31. Hook 'em!
