#1: Confluence point

(visited by John Dag Hutchison and Amphon Pitanilabut)

15-Mar-2009 -- My friend for more than 42 years back, Amphon Pitanilabut, suggested we take a trip out of Bangkok since much had happened since I lived there. I told him about the confluence project and how we might combine it with a visit to Samut Songkram, the floating market at Ampwa and Nakhon Pathom. So we did that. After Nakhon Pathom we headed north on 321. Just before reaching road 346 the GPS indicated that the confluence point was straight East. We turned right into 346, made a U-turn down that road and returned to 321 going a few hundred meters southwards before taking a lane towards the cp. At the end of this lane we came to the dam mentioned by the first visitors. On the dam we met en boy who remembered well the last visitor. He joined us in our quest for the cp, balancing on the edges of the rice fields. The cp turned out to be in a rice field, about 11 m from a road which we realized came from 346. Where we took the photos we found a boundary mark on the roadside.

The return to Bangkok and Amphon's house in Lad Prao turned out to be more of a challenge than going to the cp. Amphon had not approached the city from this side for many years. I was driving and had not been in the area for more than forty years when there were no highways, flyovers and new residential and industrial developments. All over the place new place names in the greatly expanded city. It was getting dark, the fuel gauge was indicating a low level, but after more than an hour driving around and around we finally found a road we knew and got safely to our destination.

Ps. The time on the GPS is set to CET
