13-Sep-2009 -- Our first attempt to reach this point was one week earlier. Being bored from sitting at home after an operation on my leg I thought it was time to go out of the house and do something. Having know this project for years I thought it might finally be fun to go and hunt a confluence point myself. But since my leg was not yet fully recovered it had to be one that was easy to get to. I searched for the nearest point to our house. That turned out to be 14N, 101E. From the description of the first visitor back in 2002 as well as using Google Earth it seemed that this point could be actually very easy to reach. I went out with my wife to look for it. We came pretty close, maybe missed it by about 50 meter. But since my leg was still not fully recovered I thought it was not wise to walk through the bush. We did not yet find the little path that later turned out to be such a big help. So we gave up that day but were determined to come back.
Today, 13 September 2009 we decided to go back. Meanwhile I had found that the last visitor (visitor #2 of this confluence point) has also hidden a geocache at this point. So we actually could try to do two things in one time. We went out with lots of enthusiasm to find out first Confluence Point as well as our first Geocache. If we would be able to find the Geocache we also would be the first one to find this cache. What a great day this could become.
So we (my wife, her brother in law and myself) left our house in the Khannayao district of Bangkok in the afternoon of Sunday 13 September 2009. We entered the Outer Ring Road in the northern direction (direction of Bangpa In). For us it was the next exit out again. This is the exit towards Lam Luk Ka or road 3312. This road we needed to follow for about 25km until you we only could turn left or right. We turned left and continued on that road until we passed a bridge over a small canal. We turned right into a road that initially seemed fair and reasonably paved. After a while the holes in the road got worse and we needed to drive carefully. Following this road for several kilometers we could find a small road to the right that led to a bridge over the canal. Just before this road, probably 50 meters, there was a small path that also led to the canal. This path is the one we needed to use. With our normal passenger car we could drive into this path for about 70-80 meter. Then we got out of the car and walked the last 40 meter. As you can see we could really approach this point easily, almost completely by car.
The path ends at a small canal. The area is beautiful green and silent. It is a real oasis after leaving Bangkok just an hour earlier. The confluence point itself is near a beautiful combination of two trees that have grown together (see photo's). The bush with sharp edges made it a bit difficult to reach the point itself but we made it! Whow, what a great feeling. Our next step was to find the geocache point that should be located a 6-7 meters NW of the confluence point. After about 10 minutes we also were able to find the cache. See The Confluence Cache for more information on the cache.
The day turned out perfectly. We completed all three missions. Everyone got really excited and we are now ready for more.
