30-Oct-2009 -- With a spare day during a week long visit to Laos I decided to visit the most convenient point - shame that it has been visited twice already but no time to get more adventurous and go for a new point.
As described before, the point lies a few hundred metres north of the Mekong in farmland, East of Vientiane.
I hired a 100cc motorbike for a half day from Europcar - 5 USD - and set off on the main road past the Friendship Bridge across to Thailand. The road soon becomes a dirt track and the remaining 20 kms ticked down rather slowly.
Just south of the point a small track led in to the fields and I was able to ride to within 200 metres of the point.
On the return it took a while to work out that fuel is sold from used plastic drinks bottles.
Back in time to join the Vientiane Hash for their weekly run.
