15-Jul-2011 -- The accidental confluence.
I rarely sail on Port Phillip Bay nowdays, preferring to head down to the Gippsland Lakes for a few days of sailing instead of just an afternoon on the bay, but on this day I'd just bought a new (2nd hand) spinnaker, and I was keen to try it out.
So there I am, motoring south from Half Moon Bay generally towards Mordialloc, heading upwind to make room to turn back downwind under spinnaker, when I glance at my GPS and realise I am about to pass the confluence at 38S 145E!
A mad scramble to find the camera ensues and photos are taken of the accidental confluence!
In the ten years since my last visit, I've acquired a digital camera and a new spinnaker, but the boat is the same. The GPS is a Garmin refurbished GPS12XL, exactly the same model, after I wore the last one out. Obviously all my old waypoints including confluences are in it! An electronic autopilot made it much easier to accurately (within 3.5m) hit the confluence this time too.
