22-Jan-2012 -- This attempt failed and we doubt that the point can be obtained due to dense jungle and steep mountains at its location. Our attempt comprised a 1-hour speed boat ride up the Mekong River from Luang Prabang, followed by a 9-km hike through rice paddies, streams, and jungle to the closest point that our guide could find from questioning the local villagers along the way.

We lunched on sticky rice and tinned mackerel with some locals in an unnamed hamlet at the end of the path nearest the point. To capture this point one would need some villagers to cut a trail through thick jungle. They may know some timber-cutting or animal-herding trails a bit closer but the place looks to be very steep and inaccessible.
