13-May-2000 -- Southern Ontario (on the Nothern side of Lake Ontario) usually gets 65.8mm of rain for the whole month of May. On May 12 (the night before I attempted the confluence), Southern Ontario received 67.8mm of rain. It seems that every time I plan to do a confluence, it rains just beforehand (see N44088W and N44089W). This was no exception. The Sunday Star had a photograph of carp that had been left high-and-dry on the street as a result of flooding.

So, with water still on the ground, my friend Valentina and I set off for the confluence. The Garmin GPS III+ is a great tool. I had no maps other than those in the GPS, so it was very interesting giving instructions like "turn here" based on a live map. Unfortunately, not enough roads were on the world map in the Garmin, so we blundered up and down a few minor roads until we arrived at 2909 Love St.

Paige and Richard (the owners of the new house at that address) were very pleasant, although a bit incredulous that two people would have driven to their house to see the confluence. They also wanted to know if other people would be coming now that their address was posted on the Internet, and I said I'd ask folks not to (so please, leave Paige and Richard in peace, and don't bug them).

Because of the rain, the woods and fields were very wet. The first photograph is the muddy field across which is the confluence. Most of the remainder are around the property. After taking these photos, I took off my shoes, rolled up my pants, and walked to the confluence. I left the GPS and my camera with the car - it wasn't worth risking getting them submerged in mucky muddy water.
