#1: Looking east. Confluence about 1km south east.

(visited by Mike Manessis and Katherine (Mini) Manessis)

26-Jan-2001 -- S30E115 was the first confluence of five to be attempted over the Australia Day weekend. After waking my thirteen year old daughter at 8am from her summer holiday sleeping habits we packed camping gear and were on the road by 9:30am.

Maps supplied by Donna Weston indicated this confluence was approximately 2000m from the nearest main road. After several false starts, an access road adjacent to power lines looked promising. It appeared to be aligned on 115° longitude, which I hoped would take us right to the confluence. However the road forked at a change in direction of the power lines and became impassable for 2 wheel drive vehicles.

Mini and I took off on foot crossing an expansive salt flat prior to entering some low scrub country. When it became thicker, Mini decided to let me go ahead and wait for my return. I pushed on for a further 500m before the scrub became too thick to make good time.

With 1km to the confluence plus the return trip, I decided not to leave Mini by herself any longer and accepted that this was an "attempted" visit only.

I would recommend jeans and long sleeves for others approaching this confluence.
