20-Sep-2012 -- We arrived in Iceland by MS Fram, a cruise ship of Hurtigruten, which is able to sail in arctic sea conditions. After Svalbard and Greenland this was our third and last island on our cruise where we experienced quite some surprises along our trip.

Although there had been several expeditions ashore and lots of time to relax and enjoy the live on board we longed for some extra exercise. Having some spare time in Reykjavik we decided on short notice to visit some confluences. Thanks to all the information available on the internet planning was easy.

We chose some rural roads driving to this confluence and were impressed by the desert landscape created by several volcanic eruptions nearly thousand years ago. Parking the car along the road nearest to the confluence our GPS read almost 3 km to the exact point. We hiked over lava rocks covered over with moss, blueberry bushes and other berry bushes which looked mouth watering as well. Birch trees and small hills made us change the direction from time to time and we had to carefully avoid some small chasms.

Arriving at the confluence we were happy about the good reception, reading was stable for minutes, and enjoyed the high visibility which made it possible to see Reykjavik in the distance and even the famous steeple of Hallgrimskirkja. After returning to our car we drove on to the Blue Lagoon which is nearby and relaxed one more evening before we flew home the next day.
