31-May-2012 -- Having done other CP’s in this area and completed the first line of CP’s across Australia 31deg S with this visit to 31S-133E, I decided that 30deg S was also possible to complete with the required permission.
After doing 31S 133E, I spent a few days in Ceduna buying more supplies and obtaining the required permits from the Maralinga Tjarutja community office in town and then it was back out to the Nullarbor.
I travelled west along the Eyre Highway for 320km and then turned North for 105km to Cook which is a railway siding on the railway line across Australia. The population of Cook is four caretakers and railway crews who overnight in the crew quarters. Cook is on the eastern end of the 477km straight stretch of railway, possibly the longest straight in the world and it is the refuelling point between the states of Western and South Australia.
Next morning 31st May 2012 it was an 80km drive up the Vokes Hill track and 5km through the bush to the CP. The CP is on the northern edge of the Nullarbor plain and there is light bush in this area as compared to the ”nothing” of the eastern Nullarbor.
