24-Aug-2013 -- After my unsuccessful visit to 42°N 012°E I spent the night in a tent at the banks of Lake Bracciano.
On Confluence day I drove via local and regional highways to the north. Passed some scenic towns with castles and ancient walls. 2.5 hours after my start I reached the town of Chiusi, continued on the SR71 until an unpaved rural road led towards the Point. Followed this way, missed one turn, doubled back with the car and drove until a cottage. This was the closest approach with the car.
I left the car and wanted to proceed further to the Point, but there was a long fence. My activity wakened a German shepherd dog in the property, who started to bark.
My GPS showed a distance of 98 metres to the point, enough for me for a successful Confluence visit, not sure if the coordinator accepts this also. There was no one to ask and my further search for a closer approach was unsuccessful.
Perhaps it would be possible to walk to the end of the fence, cross the fields and walk through the woods. But the vigilant dog still had an eye on me and barked loudly. Obviously the dog did a good job and I decided to leave.
On my way to my next goal the Confluence Point 44°N 012°E I recalled that I also stood on 43rd parallel in the USA: 89°W near Lake Ripley. I was delighted by the fact that I have visited Confluence Points on different continents, thousands of kilometres apart.
